The Next Chapter
November 23rd we celebrated my one year anniversary since having surgery. I was fortunate enough to have my Mom, sister and Jimmy here - although it was Calgarys biggest snow storm of the season and others couldn’t make it, we had great day.
The last two years really have rocked me to my core. I’ve spent the last four months focusing on myself, taking care of my past traumas and learning to heal. Tomorrow I return to work, a career that I’ve been building with the same company for 17 years. I’m feeling nervous, overwhelmed, excited and anxious, but ready. I think the hardest part will be leaving Mr. Winston, but I’m sure he’s looking forward to having his quiet time back.
I wanted to share some of the things I’ve come to learn in the last four months:
It’s ok to choose yourself. It’s scary but I promise you it’s worth it.
Finding things your enjoy doing is hard for some of us, but keep trying.
Protect your peace.
Stop trying to control the narrative and other people, you simply can’t.
Your worth isn’t decided by other people.
Your physical health is directly correlated to your mental health. Lift heavy things.
If you take your dog to Winners in a stroller and talk to him the entire time - people WILL judge you.
Finding things I enjoy doing has been challenging for me. Some people have tons of hobbies and interests but I’ve never been that kind of person. Here’s what I’m learning about what I like:
I love cooking and creating recipes that help me meet my goals.
I love cooking for other people, watching their face light up and hearing their enjoyment is everything.
I have really enjoyed my small group gym sessions, these women are amazing, resilient and push me to be better. Small shout out to my PR assist pull up at 105LBS.
Physical Fitness - I can’t wait to be an official PT and starting to work with like minded women.
This site, my blog, recipes, and sharing my bariatric learnings.
I’ve had a lot of firsts in the last two years, I understand now that as long as we keep growing and learning firsts are inevitable.
